We are located 2.5 kms from the market town of Lezay less than 5 mins by car,  a 10 to 15 mins cycle ride or 25 mins walk. There are circular walks from the gîtes and in the summer time the sunflower fields are something to see. In Lezay you will find a supermarket, bakeries, banks, chemists, bars, restaurants there is a park with a small fishing lake and a play area, tennis and boules courts and picnic benches. There is also a large outdoor pool which is open from the end of June to the end of August. It is a sleepy town but comes to life on a Tuesday with the market. This is a morning market and sells just about everything as well as the large outdoor market there is a small indoor food hall and also a large hanger where local people are allowed to sell livestock, fruit and veg and honey.
A little further 20 mins by car is the town of Melle  The town was founded in the reign of Charlemagne as a mining centre and was, for a time, the home of the French mint.
The silver mine is now a tourist attraction and can be visited most days of the year. In the Middle Ages, Melle flourished as a town and has three beautiful Romanesque style churches that were built during the 11th and 12th centuries. Melle also boasts a 6 km (3.7 mi) walk known as the 'Arboretum, Chemin de la Découverte'. This walk passes more than 1000 species of trees and shrubs from the temperate areas of the world, and a collection of over 100 roses.
